RAAF Pearce - Storage Facility

WA - Australia

RAAF Base Pearce is the main Royal Australian Air Force base in Western Australia and is used for training by the RAAF and the Republic of Singapore Air Force. RAAF Base Pearce is approximately 60km north of Perth at Bullsbrook. The purpose of the Storage Facility Project is to build a purpose designed facility to increase quantities that are able to be safely stored on the site.

Viewing Facility and Mortuary

WA - Australia

The QEII Medical Viewing Facility and J Block Mortuary alterations project for the Western Australian Government is located at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Nedlands. The construction of the singe storey building included waiting and viewing rooms, lift facilities to access the existing mortuary, reception, plantroom and toilet facilities. The existing mortuary will be occupied whilst construction works are in progress.

National Training Areas & Ranges Improvement Programme (NTARIP)

WA - Australia

A range of civil, general maintenance and radar system upgrade in four locations North of Perth (Lancelin, Bindoon, Muchea, Swanbourne) was delivered for the Department of Defence. The works formed part of a major range improvement program being executed across Australia, and included kilometers of road upgrades, general facilities improvements and the installation of technically complex radar systems. These systems were designed and installed within Cockram’s contract including a portion of work that was leading edge technology, the first time ever installed in Australian Defence ranges.

Surf Coast Community and Civic Precinct Stage 1

VIC – Australia

Construction of the new Surf Coast Shire Council offices and associated roadways, landscaping and wetland construction.  In addition to the new Shire offices a new sports precinct is to be constructed including an AFL ground, a synthetic soccer field, four Netball courts and associated sports pavilion.

Elizabeth Macarthur Agricultural Biosecurity Upgrade Works

NSW - Australia

The $56 million ($43.0M construction) upgrade of biosecurity facilities included the construction of a large new secure laboratory precinct. It will include high-containment certified PC2 and PC3 laboratories for virology, bacteriology, microbiology and molecular biology; refurbishment of existing animal and plant health laboratories, and an upgrade of electrical and safety systems.
Cockram Construction was engaged in an early tender involvement (ETI) process with NSW Public Works which essentially required us to provide feedback on documentation and potential design issues/risks. At this time we identified one of the key issues for the client was the programme and at tender time proposed a temporary PC2 certified laboratory structure to house researchers between moves so as not to disrupt their research. This in turn also cut 12 months off the practical completion date.

88 George Street Refurbishment

NSW - Australia

The Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority (SHFA) appointed Cockram as construction contractor for the refurbishment of a six-level heritage building at 86-88 George Street, The Rocks. SHFA is responsible for Sydney’s most historically and culturally significant waterfront locations. This project involved the demolition and construction works to refurbish the basement, ground floor, level 1, level 4, level 5 and the external podium. Each floor is approximately 2,200 square metres. It included the replacement of all services including a new passenger lift. Extensive protection of heritage features and fittings was required during the construction works, as well as minimising noise and disruption to both the existing tenants in the building and visitors to The Rocks.

Dennis Johnson Library and Leisure Centre

NSW - Australia

The Dennis Johnson Library, operated by Blacktown City Council, has been integrated with the existing Blacktown Leisure Centre enabling a total leisure experience for customers. The project involved the construction of a new library – a 1,500 square metre single-storey building, extensions to the existing Blacktown Leisure Centre involving an additional squash court, spin cycle studio, increased gym area, members bar and lounge, construction of three feature walls providing individual symbolism to the heritage of the Blacktown area including the aboriginal land on which the project sits and a “drive-through” drop-off point, enabling you to return items from the convenience of your car. The works were carried out with close co-ordination with the Blacktown Leisure Centre and Blacktown Library staff as the facility remained operational throughout the construction works.

Reserve Bank of Australia - Stage 1 and 2 Fitout

NSW - Australia

The Reserve Bank of Australia head office is located in a 1960s building in Martin Place.  The building is listed on the Commonwealth Heritage List and Register of the National Estate.  Stage 1 of the project involved the demolition of existing amenities including stairs and the decommissioning and recommissioning of the bank’s PABX.  The fitout works involved the construction of offices, new amenities, installation of workstations and associated mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and fire services on the ground floor and level 1.  Stage 2 consists of the refurbishment and fitout of two levels – level 4 and level 9 delivered in three separable portions.  The works involved demolition and replacement of some mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and fire services, and a complete office fitout including the restoration of ceilings, new partitions and workstations. The building remained occupied throughout the refurbishment works.

Hume City Council Offices

VIC – Australia

A new owner-occupied office building for Hume City Council. The building is 6 storeys plus a plant level and basement carparking and storage and is approximately 6,000m2. The project is designed to achieve a Greenstar (TM) rating of 5, and the building design and materials are consistent with this.

Moorabbin Justice Centre

VIC – Australia

Construction of the Moorabbin Law Courts facility, including court rooms, chambers and offices for various Justice agencies. The building incorporates ESD principles and is finished in materials including aluminium, copper, bluestone, concrete and glass.

Australian Industrial Relations Commission (AIRC) and Australian Industrial Registry (AIR)

VIC – Australia

A relocation to 11 Exhibition Street consisting of 6 levels of fitout incorporating 2 floors of offices, 2 floors of Judges’ / Associates’ chambers with own en-suites and 2 floors of courtrooms,12 courts in total. Audio Visual conferencing is a highlight of the technology used in 4 of these courts. A lower-ground reception area has also been re-developed.
The courtrooms and chambers comprise of high level finishes, with veneered timber walls and furniture throughout. Judges’ also have private access to the building from the street, to the court areas and to their chambers.

DSTO Site Rationalisation Project Stage 2a

VIC – Australia

Construction works associated with four buildings on a secure Defence site. Work included general laboratories, industrial laboratories, offices, conference theatre, library and other general facilities. This project was completed in an operational Defence facility, with highly stringent security requirements.

Blacktown City Council - Blacktown Athletics Stadium

NSW - Australia

The Athletics track grandstand at Blacktown Olympic Park comprises a 1,234-seat covered grandstand including disabled seats, storage enclosures, commentator box, corporate facilities, canteen, access ramp, change rooms and amenities.
The ground floor houses change rooms, testing facilities and storerooms. On the first floor there is a function room for 200 people which includes a commercial kitchen and bar. The concourse level has a public kiosk and there is also an amenities block and time keeper’s box at the 100m line complete with a fully functioning Public Address system. The roof is constructed in the shape of butterfly wings and consists of Klip Lock and Span deck metal roof sheeting. The stormwater from the roof is harvested into a storage tank for irrigation of the field and landscaping. This project was completed with Blacktown City Council.

Latrobe Valley Police and Courts Complex

VIC – Australia

Construction of a new law courts building, new 24 hour Police Station which also comprises the regional Police Headquarters, refurbishment of Latrobe House which provides accommodation for a number of government departments.

ANSTO Security and Main Entry Building

NSW - Australia

Works included the construction and fit out of a multi level security building, separate stores receivables building and guardhouse, installation of automated security gates, booms and high impact retractable bollards, complex surveillance and security installations, road works and landscaping.  The security building for the Australian Nuclear Science and Techonology Organisation contains a public reception area, training rooms, federal police offices, sophisticated security monitoring room and equipment, interview/holding rooms, armoury store and amenities.  The project was delivered within an operating environment where continuity of operations and site security was paramount. Integrated site controls and procedures were developed in cooperation with ANSTO representatives.
